Common Names:ÃÂ Scullcap Herb, Skullcap Herb
Skullcap, also known asÃÂ Blue Skullcap, gets its name from a resemblance to the metal helmets worn by Medieval European soldiers. Because 18th century early American settlers employed the plant to counter rabies, it became known asÃÂ Mad Dog Weed.
Today, the herb is prepared as tea, usually in combination with other herbs. It is also used to make salves, creams and ointments for topical use.
